Squareback Anthias (Pseudanthias pleurotaenia)
The Squareback Anthias, otherwise known as the Purple Blotch Basslet, the Squarespot Anthias, the Mirror Anthias, and Squareback Anthias, are unique fish that vary in color. Male Squareback Anthias are pink with lavender undersides, while females are yellow with lavender undersides and a blue line that runs from their nose to their pectoral fin.
It is best to keep the Squareback Anthias in a 100 gallon tank or larger with room for swimming. These fish do well when they are in groups that consist of one male and several females. If the group is rather large, it may be best to keep them in a 180 gallon tank. Anthias are hermaphroditic. If the dominant male in the aquarium perishes, the largest female of the group will change genders to take its role.
The diet of the Squareback Anthias should include: frozen mysis shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, flake foods, and live food from a refugium which cultivates copepods and amphipods.
