Pearlscale Butterflyfish (Chaetodon Xanthurus)
Pearlscale Butterflyfish are a iridescent, pearly white bodied fish with a contrast of black ink-like lining across the midbody of their latticed patterned scales. Their anterior dorsal and anal fin areas are marked with a bold orange and the tips of their peduncles are lined with a bright yellow.
It is best to keep the Pearlscale Butterflyfish in a 70 gallon tank or larger with live rock for grazing and room for hiding. Pearlscales are not the best reef dwellers. They tend to nip at soft and stony corals (sessile invertebrates). These butterflyfish are rather peaceful and can be kept with other peaceful fish and fish of the same species. If anything, keep in mind when introducing the Pearlscale to a new aquarium, they may need a bit of “TLC.”
The diet of the Pearlscale Butterflyfish should include: Spirulina, marine algae, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, frozen, freeze dried, fresh, and/or flake food.
