Juvenile Desjardini Red Sea Sailfin Tang (Zebrasoma Desjardini)
The Sailfin Tang Desjardini, otherwise known as the Indian Ocean Sailfin Tang, Red Sea Sailfin Tang or the Desjardini Sailfin Tang, transform in color with maturation.
Juvenile Sailfin Tang Desjardinis has white black and white vertical stripes across the body, with a yellow-black freckled dorsal fin, and a bright yellow anal fin. As they age, their coloring mutes and they become a black-gray with yellow freckles on the nose and across the body. One distinct feature of the sailfin tang is their sails. Their appearances can double in size with the raising and lowering of the dorsal and anal fin.
The best housing choice for the Sailfin Tang Desjardini is a 180 gallon tank or larger to provide room for swimming. They can be aggressive towards their own species and conspecifics, but they are peaceful towards other types of fish.
Although tangs will eat meaty foods, they prefer marine based seaweed and algae which will boosts their immune system, reduce aggression, and improve overall health. To feed them, tie dried seaweed to a rock or use a veggie clip, and feed at least 3 times per week.
