Humu Rectangle Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus rectangulus)
Description
The Humu Rectangle Triggerfish, otherwise known as Hawaii’s state fish, the Wedge-tailed Trigger, Rectangular Triggerfish, and the V-line
Humuhumunukunukuapuaa, are tan bodied with white faces. They have two blue and black stripes across their eyes and are marked with a black, V-shaped bar outlined in yellow that wraps around the posterior section of their bodies.
It is best to house the Humu Rectangle Triggerfish in a 180 gallon tank or larger with live rock and cave. These fish tend to rearrange the landscaping and do not do well in reef aquariums. A fun fact about the Humu Rectangle Triggerfish is that they are very vocal. They “grunt” to communicate.
Diet
The diet of the Humu Rectangle Triggerfish include: krill, squid, small fish, clams, and hard shelled shrimp to soften their teeth.
