Purple Firefish (Nemateleotris decora)
Description
The Purple Firefish, otherwise known as the Purple Dartfish, the Flame Firefish, the Decorated Firefish, and the Decorated Dartfish, are colorful in body. From head to caudal fin they range from purple, white, red, and yellow. Do note, their dorsal, anal, and caudal fins are mostly red in color with hints of purple highlights.
It is best to house the Purple Firefish in a 10 gallon tank or larger with moderate lighting and a tightly fitted lid to prevent jumping. These fish are rather peaceful and sweet tempered, and can be kept in a reef aquarium with live rock. They can be territorial and will fight with their own kind unless they are in a mated pair.
Diet
The diet of the Purple Firefish should include: algae, brine fish, chopped crustacean flesh, mysis shrimp, frozen and dried preparation. They mostly feed on prey suspended in the water column, but will pick off the substrate.
