Auriga Threadfin Butterflyfish (Chaetodon Auriga)
The Auriga Butterflyfish, otherwise known as the Threadfin Butterflyfish, are white lipped fish with black masked faces. The lower third of their bodies are a bright yellow, and their upper bodies are colored a bright white. Some Auriga have a black eyespot on the rear side of their elongated dorsal fins and this is dependent on where they are found regionally.
It is best to house the Auriga in a 125 gallon tank or larger with live rock for grazing and plenty of places to hide. These fish are not the best reef dwellers. They tend to eat and pick at soft and stony corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles. If you are planning on keeping two Auriga Butterflyfish or a different type of butterflyfish with similar coloring, they should be added into the aquarium at the same time.
The Auriga Butterflyfish’s diet should include: frozen marine preparations, fish, crustaceans, and mysis shrimp
